Marimekko
Marimekko: The Joy of Finnish Modernism
Marimekko is a world-renowned Finnish design house that has defined Scandinavian style since its founding in 1951 by Armi Ratia. At its core, Marimekko is about "the art of printmaking." The brand rejected the restrictive, conservative floral patterns of the post-war era in favor of bold, abstract, and large-scale graphics that celebrate creative freedom. Marimekko's wallpapers are essentially "wearable art for walls," designed to bring a sense of optimism, rhythm, and vibrant energy into a living space.
The brand's aesthetic is characterized by its hand-drawn soul. Even their most geometric patterns retain the "imperfect" lines of the artist’s original brushstrokes or paper cut-outs. Today, Marimekko wallpapers are often produced in collaboration with masters like Jannelli & Volpi, utilizing modern techniques like 3D inks and metallic foils to add physical depth to their historic 2D prints.
