The design draws from a 1707 woven silk pattern by James Leman (1688–1745), a Huguenot master weaver and designer based in Spitalfields, London. His work, featured in the Leman Album—one of the V&A’s most treasured textile archives—comprises 97 hand-painted silk designs, the earliest dated examples in Europe.
This modern interpretation has been brought to life using the in-house Sur-Flex printing process developed by 1838.
