Paeonia is a richly decorative wallpaper design adapted from a 1918 fabric in the V&A archive. Featuring large, layered peony blooms in full flourish, the design is infused with ornate detailing and exotic floral motifs that echo the elegance of hand-painted Chinese wall panels popular in 18th-century European interiors. Remastered with care, the wallpaper retains the intricate character of the original textile while allowing the stunning peonies to breathe and transform modern living spaces.
In the Indigo colourway, deep purple and soft blue tones create a dramatic yet graceful backdrop, adorned with opulent floral forms.

The design originates from the Calico Printers’ Association, a major textile manufacturer formed in Manchester in 1899 through the merger of 46 printing firms and 13 merchants. By the early 20th century, the company was known for producing high-quality dress and furnishing fabrics, including chintzes, while also driving innovation in textile development. During the interwar period, the association’s studios embraced a revival of chinoiserie in both fashion and interiors—an influence beautifully captured in Paeonia’s timeless design.
